Great Fishing Trip to Bimini

Report Date: April 10, 2014

We had some good fishing last week. Jacque and Pierre had a good trip and caught skipjack, blackfin tuna, mahi and wahoo. We even caught a pair of sailfish. Most of our action was between 400’ and 500’ with a good current and nice blue water.

The last 3 days we fished Bimini, in the Bahamas, with Alex, Stephan and Serge. We saw non-stop action for the entire trip. On Saturday morning, we left for Bimini, Bahamas with a live-well full of goggle eyes and pilchards. We had a good crossing, cleared customs and with some time left in the afternoon, we decided to look for mahi, but no luck. However, we did find plenty of blackfin tuna and big skipjacks.

On Sunday, we bottom fished 20 miles south of Bimini in 60' of water. With the chum bag deployed, Alex, Serge and Stephan started pulling in yellowtail snapper immediately on dead bait. We also put out a few live baits on the kite. The kite saw non-stop action from big kingfish, big cero mackerel, sharks and big barracuda. The day saw an epic number of fish caught, many of them released. We headed home to the Bimini Big Game Club to have dinner and a good night sleep.

On Monday, we fished North of Bimini in 15' of water and anchored up, again with the chum bag out. And again, the fish weren’t shy. Our clients caught some big mangrove snapper, yellowtail, porgy and grouper - all on dead bait. But when we put our live bait into the fray, the real action started. Our anglers caught a big spinner shark, nurse shark, blacktip shark, almaco jack, and at the end, we had a few cobia show-up to eat our baits. What a way to end the trip!

Overall, fishing has been very good for us here or in the Bahamas, and it should stay that way for the next few months.

Good luck and tight lines,

Capt. Mario Cote
